Introducing Stephen Jones

Rob May Builders are super excited to welcome Stephen Jones to the team as our Brand Ambassador

Rob May Builders have had several different faces come and go over the ten years we've been in business: tradesmen, foremen, apprentices, labourers, but never before have we had a Brand Ambassador (probably because none of us have been famous enough!)

Well that has now changed and we are super excited to welcome NZ High Performance Squad member and Kiwi Eight rower Stephen Jones aboard our team.

Stephen, and his partner Anna (affectionately know as Bam) have called Cambridge home for the past three years, but they are now excitedly watching Rob May Builders build their own home in one of Cambridge's fastest expanding subdivisions. Stephen bikes home from Lake Karapiro via the new house most days to eagerly see the days progress on site. "It's exciting seeing big and small changes that are happening, every day it's starting to look more and more like a house." He and Anna and their dog Alfie often take the short walk from their current rental in the evenings to have a closer look at their new home taking shape. Anna says "It's so amazing seeing the ideas we drew on paper those months ago starting to take form."

A member of the NZ Kiwi Eight in the vital position of Stroke, Stephen sets the stroke-rate and rhythm for this crew that is achieving increasing success in a class not represented by a NZ team at the Olympics since 1984. A fourth-placing at this year's World Champs has seen them qualify for next year's Rio Olympics, and Stephen is amping for the opportunity to impress there.

Already a two-time World Champ in the U-23 Men's Eight in 2013 and 2014, 22 year-old Stephen is ticking off some impressive achievements, and hopes to add to these both next year at Rio and in Tokyo 2020. "Rowers peak in their early-30's, so who knows what the next few years will bring."

High Performance Sport NZ Strength and Conditioning Manager Trent Lawton speaks highly of Stephen's athletic drive and character. "Steve is a genuine guy who puts in 100%. An Olympic medal at Rio would not be undeserved."
The "stroke" is the rower closest to the stern of the boat and is usually be one of the most technically sound members of the boat and sets the stroke timing the rest of the crew follows.
Whatever the sport of rowing does bring for him, he'll always appreciate coming home to a warm, dry and stylish house with the quality and workmanship that Rob May Builders have become renowned for. "We can't wait for the day we get to move in, it will be so great to be in our own home" say Anna excitedly.

Stephen is excited to be an ambassador of a team that brings that, and it's great to have a driven and high-achieving guy like Stephen as our brand ambassador. We're very excited to see what the next few years bring for Stephen and Anna as they make a Rob May home their home.
